The colors in an LED mask are not decorative settings. Each represents a different wavelength range, and wavelength influences how light interacts with the skin. Understanding that distinction makes it easier to choose a mode based on a specific concern rather than selecting a color at random.
Red light: support for visible signs of aging
Red light is widely studied in photobiomodulation and is commonly used in routines focused on fine lines, texture and firmness. It is thought to interact with cellular processes involved in energy production and repair. With consistent use, some studies have reported improvements in skin roughness, fine wrinkles and collagen density.
Omrix DermaLuxe uses red light at approximately 630 nanometers. Results are gradual, and they depend on the dose delivered by the device, the treatment schedule and individual skin response.
Blue light: support for blemish-prone skin
Blue light works closer to the skin's surface. It is commonly used as an adjunct for mild acne because certain wavelengths can interact with porphyrins produced by Cutibacterium acnes, a bacterium involved in acne.
DermaLuxe uses blue light at approximately 460 nanometers. Blue light is not a complete acne treatment and will not address every cause or type of breakout. Persistent, painful or scarring acne should be assessed by a dermatologist.
Yellow light: a gentler, emerging area
Yellow or amber light occupies the space between blue and red on the visible spectrum. It is often included in routines aimed at the appearance of uneven tone, temporary redness and overall radiance. Research in this area is growing, but it is less established than the evidence for red-light photobiomodulation.
DermaLuxe uses yellow light at approximately 590 nanometers. It should be described as supportive rather than as a treatment for rosacea or another diagnosed inflammatory condition.
Near-infrared: invisible light with deeper reach
Near-infrared light sits just beyond the visible spectrum, so it may not appear illuminated even when the device is operating correctly. It penetrates more deeply than visible red light and is frequently paired with red light in photobiomodulation devices.
DermaLuxe uses near-infrared light at approximately 850 nanometers. Research has explored red and near-infrared combinations for skin rejuvenation, but outcomes remain dependent on the exact device and treatment dose.
Is combining wavelengths better?
A multi-wavelength mask offers flexibility because skin concerns often overlap. Someone may want support for early fine lines while also experiencing occasional blemishes or uneven tone. Multiple modes allow the routine to be adapted without requiring several separate devices.
That does not mean every color must be used in every session. Follow the Omrix treatment guidance for selecting modes and frequency. More wavelengths or longer exposure do not automatically produce a better result.
Choosing a mode
Choose red and near-infrared when the priority is the appearance of firmness, texture and fine lines. Choose blue when active blemishes are the main concern. Choose yellow when the goal is a gentle radiance-focused routine for the appearance of uneven or temporarily flushed skin.
Whichever mode you select, consistency and correct use matter more than chasing instant change. LED therapy is a gradual skincare practice, not a one-session transformation.
